It might be a Clue....

That I need to do more housework. Or maybe just more public mopping.

Yesterday we drove Sir all the way to work, I did half my grocery shopping, washed two loads of laundry, ran the dishwasher once, bathed one kid, changed a wet bed, swept half the house, cleaned the master bathroom and mopped 4 ½ floors. That was aside from the usual stuff like keeping the peace, picking Sir up from the skytrain, making meals and changing diapers.

Anyway, I was mopping my bedroom floor after dinner when Dolly happened upon me:

Dolly: Hi Mommy, what are you doing?
Me: Cleaning up.
Dolly: Why are you mopping the floor?
Me: Because it needs to be done.
Dolly (still sounding puzzled)Did somebody throw up?

That's when it dawned on me that my kids don't see me do very much floor mopping around here. It gets done eventually (I use the word liberally), but usually it's after they've gone to bed in order to save my sanity while the floors dry.

Now I need to go put today's groceries away. Hmmm... I should probably go dump the mop water too, before some kid thinks it's a great place to float something.

  1. Loved this, and the last sentence especially. I am just starting to learn about how things around the house change once you have a kid that is mobile! For example, if you sweep the floor and leave the dirt pile in the corner while you switch the laundry over, your baby WILL find it. Eww. Or if you leave the laundry room door open, they will most likely crawl in there and then lie against the door so you can't get in.

  2. Haha, SO so true. What drives me nuts is that the whole house is NEVER clean at the same time. And, if my I go into super cleaning lady mode, my kids ask if someone is coming to stay for the weekend... really? It's not THAT rare of an occurrance!!!

  3. That is so FUNNY! I'm always defending myself to Brianna too and usually it's because of things I save for after the kids are in bed. She asked me recently if I ever sweep the floor because she doesn't see me do it. :)

  4. I don't think my kids even know what a mop does :) Good for you for cleaning!

  5. I love this story! I told it to a friend of mine with four kids and her reply was, "I feel so much better." =)
